1 to 4 hours tucked in on a Ducati 800ss? You're one tough hombre, I
better quit foolin with you.

That red on white 749R on the moto-st website is tits. Wonder why
Ducati didn't think of that?

Hopefully we'll find a way to make the bike more comfortable for long
periods on the track. Maybe a tank/chin pad?

I got to see the bike for the first time yesterday. George and I both
took our Harleys up to Winchester H-D for regularly scheduled
service. After dropping them off (he rode, I took mine in the truck)
I ferried George over to Duc Pond Motorsports, our new race sponsor.

The 800SS looks kind of forlorn in the back of the shop, all the
bodywork taken off except the fuel tank. Otoh, the only visible
damage to the bike now is the punched ignition lock and a scraped
muffler. Donnie Unger, owner of Duc Pond, just got back from a
Desmosedici maintenence class in Italy, so he hasn't even looked at
the bike yet.

Oh, and George got to ride home on a brand new loaner (bright red)
GT1000.

The bastard.

P.S. I got a look at the factory desmosedici service manual. Those
cylinder heads are effing COMPLICATED!

Score! George and I just picked up for the racebike, in a package
deal, off a 2004 Ducati 1000SS:

Ohlins rear shock
Aluminum swingarm
Front & Rear 5-spoke forged aluminum Marchesini wheels
Fully adjustable front forks (reworked for racing by GP Suspension -
anyone know anything about these guys: http://www.gpsuspension.com/
?)

The 800SS comes with a Sachs rear shock, a steel swingarm, heavier 3-
spoke cast Brembo wheels, and non-adjustable forks.

The stock wheels we'll keep and use for rain tires.

Moto-ST rules require oem wheels (no aftermatket magnesium or carbon
fiber items) so the 5-spokers are a good upgrade over the 3-spoke
jobs.

Oh, and also, we invited Buell racer Jeff Gochenour to be our third
rider in the longer (6-8 hour) races. He accepted, pending schedule
deconflicting with his club racing an 1125R next season.

Be sure to peel off the Marchesini sticker just to avoid an argument.

Well, the Screamin' Duc Racing Moto-ST race bike is coming along.
Just got a status report from our race sponsor, Duc Pond
Motorsports. The bike has received a full service, and has been
started up and run through the gears, there is no damage or problems
with the powertrain.

The aluminum swingarm and race-prepped adjustable forks have been
installed along with the Ohlins shock/spring and the 5-spoke wheels.

A racing wiring harness is being fabricated, the Sharkskinz Ducati 999
fairing and seat have been installed, and the ARC fabrication racing
exhaust is on order.

Pics to follow....

Went up to DucPond Motorsports to see the work in progress. Aluminum
swingarm and adjustable forks have been installed, rear subframe has
been removed and frame stubs installed for the aluminum hoop that's
going to be replacing the subframe. Sharkskinz 999 fairing and oil-
retaining bellypan installed with quick release fasteners, alloy
fairing bracket. Steering damper installed, Ohlins shock installed,
Woodcraft/CFM clip-ons and rearsets installed. Engine serviced,
valves adjusted, belts changed. EBC front brake rotors awating
conversion to full floating, oem rear brake disk marked and ready for
the machine shop to thin and mill it to about 1/2 its normal mass. 5-
spoke wheels checked fro true, awaiting powdercoating black.

Waiting on custom exhaust and oem Ducati 999 seat pad.

Looks like we'll be doing some Florida testing in December-February
timeframe.

Website should be up in a week or so, t-shirt and ball cap sales to
follow shortly!

Pics will be on the website, too. (I hope!)

AWESOME! I'm looking forward to meeting you when they run some Moto-ST
races at Road America!

So you'll be racing in the SST class?

There are darn 'purdy billet aluminum parts I machined on the Richie
Morris Buells for the '07 season, and will probably be doing more this
year for them, and James Gang Racing as well

And now I'll have 3 teams to be cheering for this year! I really hope
they do more midwest races. I know they wont be doing Iowa ever again.

Sounds good. I've never raced Road America. Maybe I better get one
of those racing video games this winter.

Yep. Just like old times; going up against hordes of evil, world
conquering, devil-bikes-from-hell, SV-650's! Except, this time I
will be riding a Ducati 800SS instead of a Kawasaki EX500. Oh, and
of course, I'm older and slower, too!

Cool. Can I call on you if we discover any custom machining needs?

One of the selling points to my race partner's spouse is the fact that
there were on;y six races in the season this year. We both hope
there will be more races in '08; but if so, we'll have to break the
news to his wife, ah, ....gingerly.

I'd love to say *YOU BET!*, but unfortunately, my plate is pretty full
for doing "government" jobs this off season. But heck, if you need
something, email me. The worst that can happen is I say no
