I know a road that's 25 miles long and has 700 curves. The gate at the
entrance to the hidden valley is locked six months of the year.
The pavement is all gnarly and nasty and it's no fun at all on a sportbike.
I rode up there two years ago looking for eagles and only two other dualsport
riders were on the road.
The road ascends through scrub oak and passes flowering dogwoods before
entering an arid manzanita zone before reaching the pine and cedar forest.
You get a different view of a world-famous batholith surrounded by giant
trees
as you ride that forgotten road.
Somebody with a sense of humor named their house "Skyhook". It hangs over the
side of the canyon of the East Fork of the Raven's Cry* River, and you can
see it shining in the sun from ten miles away.
There's a beautiful valley with several mountain lakes at 7500 feet and
hiking trails go up to 12,000 feet.
(* In the local Native American language, when the raven cries, it's saying
"I will kill you!")
