Default Lowering kit question

Hello all, don't know if this is the correct forum to ask, but my
Brother-in-law bought a 1987 Honda Goldwing 1200 and it is quite a tall
bike. He is very short and when stopped has to be on his tip-toes to just
bairly touch the ground. I am not a mechanic at all. I ride a Harley
Heritage softail which I really enjoy ( Sorry, I know this is a Honda
forum )

We have been looking to try to find some type of a lowering kit to install
on his Honda, so he will be able to reach the ground a little better. He is
quite intimidated by the hight of the bike and is a fairly new rider (at
least of a larger cruiser bike) he's had a 450 honda in the past that he was
riding, but that was much smaller for him. I hate to see him not ride
because he's intimidated by the bike. It's really a nice bike and in very
good condition. I rode it and it runs perfect.

My Question: Do they make some kind of a kit to lower it. (even a couple
inches would be fine) and if not, is there something that we could
manufacture or do to make it shorter?

Thank you in advance
Rick

Rick, he doesn't need a "lowering kit."

The rear shocks are air assit on the '87. The fronts are also. Let some
air out. You can remove the seat from the bike, turn it over and remove the
staples holding down the cover. Expose the foam, and undercut the foam to
lower the seat height. Once you do this, have him check it again. He needs
to be able to sit on the bike flat footed to be legal. Also, tell him never
drop the bike unless someone else is around. The '87 weights 960 lbs. dry.
Good luck.

You can have the seat cut down
