Default Just purchased 1969 T120, need some help!

Hi everyone

I just bought a 1969 T120, and need to know the best online dealer (and
the metric size) for a new rear tire. Also, I observed a quantity of
oil leaking from the crankcase breather pipe (more than I would
expect)...Any ideas?

Thanks for any help, I'm looking forward to restoring her to full glory.

If mailorder is your bag a place called 'British Only' in Fla. has all
you should need and is running a 20% off sale.
They have both web and paper catalogs as well as new and used stuff.

Usually the breather oveflow is due to a lot of high RPMs or a little
too much oil but worn check valves and the like can cause unequal
pressure so get your manual and check the breather systematiclly. You
might find a small sludge clog the previous owner overlooked.

if you use the long rubber hose that exits out under the
rear fender, replace it as a matter of course.
the check valves are important becuse you can get wet
sumping...yuck.

High rpm will for sure give you plenty of smoke/oil, but if you're not
racing it's likely time for new rings and a top end tune-up.

Nothing a good little helper and a six pack can't cure.

Just pop off the top, pull the jugs, hone the cylinders from the bottom
leaving the carbon ring at the top of the cylinders intact. (Don't worry
about it if you need to overbore) Replace the rings with the spaces 120
degrees apart. The original copper head gasket can be re-used by
heating to red hot, (tiger torch or gas stove and propane torch) then
quenched in cold water. Polish with fine steel wool and Bob's your
uncle. Careful with it then, it's limp as a noodle.

Torque the top back on, after lapping in the valves of course. If you
have to replace the valve guides just put the whole head, minus valves,
springs, keepers etc in the oven at 300F for an hour or so then pop them
out with a plastic mallet or a ball pean and a block of hardwood. Pound
the new ones in while it's still hot. Be very careful of the alignment,
those aluminum heads won't give you much of a fudge-factor. If you don't
have a valve spring compression tool, one can be easily made from a 6" C-
clamp by grinding a chunk out of the solid foot end or welding a couple
of 1" legs on the same end. Makes life a lot easier trying to get the
keepers back in.

Lot's of luck with that baby. Just like harleys, they don't die if they
get a little TLC once in a while

I swear by Klempf's in Michigan for parts. Mitch is a really nice guy and
very knowledgable.

Regarding the sludge from your breather, try draining the crankcase via
the plug at the bottom. If it's been sitting, it may have (probably has)
wet sumped and is now puking out the breather.

there is a mesh filter down there that people often
overlook. cleaning that one is imperative.

Before you follow any of the good advice on top end overhaul, make
sure the chaincase hasn't just been overfilled with oil.
