04 Triumph America

After shopping and researching for well over a month I have made the
plunge and bought a 2004 Triumph America. I was down to that or an 05
Speedmaster, and budget prevailed. (I got the America for almost $3000
less!)

If you own and America I would love to hear from you! Any upgrades,
mods etc or just your general experience with the bike. I bought mine
over the internet and will have it in about 2 weeks - should get a few
weeks before winter sets in here in Canada!

That's a beautiful bike for sure. I recently bought my first bike, an 07
America. Got it back in June and absolutely love it thus far. I had the long
off-road pipes installed and I don't know if it was because of the pipes or
simply being a new bike, but there was quite a bit of back firing. I
mentioned this when I brought it in for the 500 mile maint. At that point I
also installed a K&N air filter. The tech checked everything out once the
filter was installed and the bike was well within specs. After I picked the
bike up I did notice way less back firing. The air flow through the engine
is incredible.

Thanks! I am anxiously awaiting delivery the 15th of October. I may
get 1-2 weeks riding in before it will be too cold to use it here in
Newfoundland. There are very few Triumph's here on "The Rock" and I've
only ever seen a 2005 Speedmaster about 1 month ago. I was going to
get a Bonneville T-100 but discovered the America after seeing the
Speedmaster and doing research online. I hope to get the same pipes as
you next spring; will be asking some questions as to whether or not
the local police are cracking dowm on the off-road pipes first!

Interesting to hear about the backfiring problem - that is not a
common complaint that I have heard. I assume you don't need to re-jet
the carbs when changing the pipes?

I also hear some good reviews on the seat for its width and comfort.
