electrical problem

Hi there, thought I'd describe my frustration and see if anyone has
words of wisdom!

So I went to start my bike, which is an '03 Tuono. It did the startup
checks normally, then when I hit the starter its as if the electrical
system completely died. Dash lights and everything completely dead.

So my first thought was to check the fuses. Everything fine there,
15amp aux and 30amp main fuses are ok. Wiring was ok. So I thought to
check if there was any juice. Parking lights work fine. Very strange.

When the ignition is keyed from off to on, nothing at all happens. When
keyed from on to off, the tachometer, well, sort of bounces. I don't
really know how to describe it.

I'm thinking something pretty major in the electrical is really screwed
up. Any insight would be helpful as transporting the bike will be quite
difficult for me. Thanks

Did the dash worked fine the first time you turned on the ignition to
the on position? Because you're telling that when you hit the starter
everything is/goes dead...

Have you tried to start the bike using jumper cables to another
bike/car. just incase your battery is going bad and can't produce
enough power. (parking lights don't need alot of power, the starter
motor does...)
