Selling my Ducati what should I ask?
Hi,
I am going to be selling my 2000 Ducati Monster 900sie and not sure what to
ask, any advice is greatly appreciated. I am selling this because of severe
back pain post op surgery I no longer can ride. The bike is in excellent
condition with under 2k miles!!! It is totally customized with nearly $20k
total invested (including cost of bike). I know you never get back what you
put into a vehicle and don't plan on it. I just want something fair and
respectable even if I am better of trading it for a nice car of equal value
or selling off some of the parts separately. The bike is all polished
aluminum and carbon fiber, a real head turner for sure! Some of the items I
can remember at the moment are (following parts are all custom aluminum
brushed): gas tank, windscreen, intake scoops, mirrors, additional front fog
lights, clutch cover, clear belt cover, dual exhaust under seat, extra set
of custom foot pegs, and so much more. Following items are Carbon fiber add
ons: belly pan, more side intakes, fenders, plate guard, and more. Titanium
steering damper, powercommander, K&N intake kit, adjustable suspension,
Sargent seat, extra Corbin seat, chrome rear tire stand, Ducati bike cover,
switch that allows kickstand to be down when starting, and more... I still
have the original exhaust with carbon fiber and the seat I can remember,
have more though. I am in no rush to sell, really just like looking at this
in my garage but it serves no purpose but reminding me of my physical
limitations. I prefer selling the bike with everything however if I get
allot of unreasonable offers I will consider either holding on to it or
selling off some of the bling. I appreciate all suggestions, thanks.

Dear Nick,
Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan use Dollars
for their currency.
Of the 6, which one are you from in the Big WIDE World of the Internet?
Sorry about your health issues.

I'd start by looking at a site for selling, in the UK we use AutoTrader,
e.g.
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www...ch_full=SEARCH
or http://tinyurl.com/2vnwj7 if that wraps a bit :-)
that was a search on all 900s below 5K miles. You might find a similar
site closer to home for you and that may carry more insight into the
mods. Be advised prices may be different in the UK (usually higher,
bloody Rip Off Britain).
You'd get more I think if sold the bling on fleabay oe something, just
so long as you have the originals to put back on the bike. Sorry I can't
help too much on the specifics but hope I pointed you in a direction
where you'll get further than you were when you posted this.

I'm betting none of the above.
Ooh, Kazakhstan has Tenge but most people there prefer to use USD :-)

Hey Trev,
I looked into such sites the problem is when you have a heavily modded bike
thats unique or such low miles those sites do not help to much. Basically it
all depends on what people are willing to pay for such a thing which is why
I was asking here. Thanks for the link, I like browsing around every now and
then as an automotive/ motorcycle enthusiast. If you know of any other good
links were you are located or anyone for that matter I would appreciate to
see them any were in the World. Unfortunately no more bikes for me. I have a
great interest in Ford's especially the Mustang so car sites are more
preffered. Thanks everyone for your time. God Bless.

The AutoTrader site is primarily aimed at cages so you might find a few
there (top left, link to cars).
There's more than 200 mustangs on there, which surprised me. I didn't
know there was that many in the UK :-) Maybe the owners just worked out
how much petrol (gas) they were putting in them. I'd like one myself but
it would have to be right hand drive, no use having a V8 if you can't
see to overtake because the steering wheel's on the wrong side <g>
I get 18 MPG[1] out of my Bimmer now so I don't think fuel costs will
concern me.
[1] That may look more economical to you than it is but remember 1 US
Gal = 3.8 litres, 1 UK Gal = 4.6 litres so in US terms the MPG is lower
than 18 :-(

Hi Trev,
I am watching Pinks on the Speed channel atm. You ever watch that show its
great. Glad to see Mustangs are popular in the UK. I always loved these
cars since I was little. I own an '88 ASC McLaren Mustang right now and
absolutely love it. If you are unsure what that is you can goto
WWW.ASCMCLAREN.COM and check them out. I hope that when I sell my motorcycle
I can afford another nice fox bodystyle ('79-'93) Mustang. I can understand
the frustrations with the wheel on an unfamiliar side, when I went to
England it freaked me out even though I expected it lol. You can find allot
of really nice Mustangs down under too in Australia. I even spotted a right
hand drive ASC McLaren Mustang for sale there! I am a lil confused on the
gas issue. Let me try to make some sense of it and by all means correct me
if I misunderstood you. Ok, as you mentioned 1 US gal is 3.8L were as 1 UK
gal is 4.6L. So if you are getting 18mpg consuming 4.6L of fuel that would
be the same as your car getting 14.87mpg on a US gallon. Does that support
what you were saying? Doesn't Europe sell petrol by the liter? Oh by the way
when I quickly read the 3.8L and 4.6L I immediately thought of the Ford 6
and 8 cylinder motors not gallons lol. Take care.

Yes, I've seen Pinks. I'd like to his H6 go up the strip :-) 14.87
sounds about right, bit thirsty for a 3 litre but it's all country (very
twisty) roads on my way to work, great for the Ducati though. I get
about 24MPG on a motorway, more steady driving. The Duc gets around 45MPG
Yes, petrol is sold in litres but we always think in terms of MPG and
have to convert what we bought into gallons first. Even our government
figures are still in MPG.
The metric system is only partial here. All our children are just under
or over a metre tall but the petrol station is a few hundred yards down
the road. My rear tyre is 180mm wide and 17" diameter. Athletics is all
in metres but the most important middle distance record is the mile.
Even spirits (liquor) is now sold in metric sizes, 25ml as opposed to
1/6 gill but beer is still sold in pints, except bottled beers most of
which come from the continent anyway where they have no idea what a pint
is, or an inch, or a mile...
The English Channel has been our moat for 1000s of years :-)
