Weird speedo thing.
Yesterday I rode with some friends to a party on the Rogue River. I had
a really good time and because there were some patch holders in
attendance, it became the accepted protocol that when you left, you
poured the coal to it.
My departure wasn't any different than anybody else's: I ran through the
gears in an impressive (I'm sure) display of my TC's power. However, as
I continued on my way, I noticed that the speedometer reading was now
off, way off. I pulled over to the side of the road and shut the bike
down, then started it back up. Now the speedo reading was correct.
However later, as I accelerated onto I-5 from the onramp, the speedo
reading went off the mark again. When I came to a stop the next time and
then took off again, the speedo reading was correct again.
I don't know if this is going to be a continual problem at this point,
but I hope it won't be. I know that the speedo sensor is a light
detector that's aimed at my front pulley. Maybe it got some dirt on it
or something when I washed the bike yesterday, I don't know.
Anybody (assuming anybody's reading this) else have this kind of problem?

Haven't had such a problem or even heard of anyone else having such a
problem. You said that the reading was way off but not in which direction or
if it were jumping about so I really don't have a guess. I do work with
light sensors and dirt certainly can be a problem with them. Either blocking
light or in some cases reflecting light can cause some very strange
readings. You said you noticed the problem after had washed the bike and
that add the possibility of water. Reflective to light but able to do
strange things with electric's as well and a little water in a closed
housing can remain there for some time. Since you saying that it goes odd
with acceleration or higher speed I would guess it needs cleaning, partially
blind and cannot see well more rapid movement or change. I believe from your
other post that yours is a digital read out and likely different from mine
so even if I went out and looked at mine it may be of little or no help.
Well I am off to Pennsylvania in about two hours and will be gone for a
week, hope all is working better by then....

Slower, much slower than I was actually going, and it doesn't jump about.

From what I saw, it was just with "excessive" acceleration. High speed
didn't cause the problem.

Nope, needle. Needle goes where the sensor tells it.

First part of the trip over and completed safely now on to the next part...
I hope the second part will be dryer than the first part was. Camping in
90/90 weather isn't the most fun I have ever had. {90/90 weather; 90 degrees
with 90% humidity} Rained twice a day every day, once in the morning and
again in the late afternoon.

Egad. I've been in weather like that, but it was a looooonng time ago
when I was back east in the service. Hope the rains were some relief.
As for my bike, I haven't ridden it since the party and also, that
darned flasher unit hasn't come in yet. They told me "we'll call you
when it comes in" and it's been just a little too long. I hope they're
not going to start the old "we don't send an order in until the shipping
is cheaper" routine. Last time that happened to me was when I owned a
BSA. It's the reason I went over to Harleys. I don't like waiting
several weeks for a part to come in. That's bull.

"waiting for parts" has been my one long time complaint about Victory. To
many simple things have been held up by the waiting for parts. This spring
they replaced my front rotor, no problem but the new rotor didn't come with
the bolts to attach it so I spent three weeks "waiting for parts" for bolts.
simular times for other things but that had to be the silliest, three weeks
for bolts....

Yeah! I know what you mean! I ordered a new rubber tip for my kickstand,
and it arrived without the rivets!!!! I groaned and asked the guy at the
parts counter to go ahead and order some, but he said that I might not
want to do that because they come in sets of 20. I asked him how I was
supposed to attach the damned thing and he didn't know either.
I think a letter to Victory is in order at this point. Maybe we can
collaborate on it here if you're willing. I'd like to send them a list
of complaints I have about the bike, but temper it with compliments
about the good things too.

I am just not sure who to blame for some of the waiting. The salesman had
said that at a previous job he had working for one of the "PowerSports"
dealers [HondaKawasakiSuzukiandmore] the rotors came in the same way with
out mounting bolts. If that's the case then the dealer should have known to
order the bolts at the same time or as in your case ordered the set of
twenty and keep them in stock. A hand full of bolts shouldn't be either
space or finance consuming for a dealer to keep around. Certainly it would
seem that part orders shouldn't take weeks to fill so Victory does hold some
responsibility but if we end up in the middle of a finger pointing match
between Victory and their dealers the only sure outcome is a "we lose". You
are right in that we [Victory owners] need to communicate with Victory what
we think they are doing right and wrong and do so in some fashion that might
get their attention. From what I have seen and read Victory didn't and still
hasn't given a good response to those who had problems with the early
transmissions, and they certainly have heard those complaints.

Nah. It quit doing it. Working fine now.
