How to quote with Web-TV.

To quote with Webtv, follow these simple instructions...

If you don't have the *optional* keyboard for WebTv or WebTv Plus, I
strongly recommend the purchase.
The cost is about $50. but well worth the money.

Now that you have the keyboard, follow these directions...

Click on "home". Once at home, arrow down and right to "help" and
click on, then arrow right and down to "Tips and Tricks" and click
on, then arrow down to "Copy and Paste" and click on.

This will show you how to cut, copy, and paste. just follow the
instructions and practice sending yourself email before trying to post
in news groups.

Once you've learned how to cut, copy, paste and you want to reply to a
newsgroup post, all you need to do is quote the part that relates to
your reply. It may be difficult at times but try to avoid lengthy quotes
- it just wastes bandwith and can also be very aggravating wading
through it for others.

Keep it simple but informative. Make sure everyone reading it can
understand what is being said in the event that the original post falls
off before they had an opportunity to read it.

I find it best to respond to a post by using the name and email address
of the original poster to start your reply post.

Here is where you will paste your copy. Then I like to underline what
(mike) wrote like this:

Respond here where I started this sentence.

OR, you could move on to the Webtv upgrade and change font sizes as you
have seen in the newsgroup. You don't need anything special to do this -
here is how that is achieved...

To change the font size (shrink your words) in order to use them in a
quote situation follow these directions:
Move your cursor ( that vertical line that moves around when you type)
to the first word of the sentence that you want to shrink.

The cursor must be all the way left on your screen. Hold the shift key
and type " >" Release the keys and arrow right until you reach the last
letter in that sentence. Do NOT let the cursor fall off and go to the
next line. You MUST take the cursor to the next line by hitting the
return key - then repeat the process until you have completed your
quote.

You can speed the cursor movement by holding the "cmd" key down and then
hit the "arrow" right key.

Once you've mastered the process, you can then try doing the same thing
with words in the middle of a sentence. Practice this in your own email
before trying it in newsgroups.

To symbolize a "quote," hold the "shift" key and the "alt" key and type
this symbol .... [ for the left quotation mark and this symbol ... ] for
the right.This can be used when attributing. Example:

"Patty" wrote: (hit return)

Then follow it with what she said here. Once you've copied and shrunk
what she had to say, then you just type in your reply. Sounds
complicated but it"s
really very simple.
