Most of them cannot back a trailer straight into their
garage. It would take forever to get it into a bubble! One
guy I know bought a toy hauler. Both Harleys live in it
with the air conditioning and humidity controls all year. A
ride for him is backing the Harley out for display while
tailgating at the BBQ after Harley "rides". His idea of
getting the bikes ready for a ride is having ones of his
employees make sure it is clean and polished before he goes.

I met a guy on a benefit ride this past weekend. Had TN plates (I live
in VA) on his custom Harley-something-or-another. He had tons of
custom stuff on it - $500 dragon's claw kickstand; $200 bony hand
mirrors, special pipe I had never seen before, custom paint job,
raked, and so on. He had like $50K in the bike.

You'd think he'd trailer it since it's a show bike, but no, he's got
over 38,000 mi on it.

There seems to be a lot of idiocy in all of the bike world.
I think some is required to survive if you actually ride. I
know a few bikers with several different makes who have lots
of money in them for high end stereos and everything else
and ride many miles in all kinds of weather. One just came
back from AK on his far out Wing. Probably $40k in it and
went the entire 9K mile trip w/o washing or service. It is
being serviced now in prep for a trip to Mexico city. He
has already logged over 80K miles this year. He plans to
trade next spring after a couple more winter trips south.
Still other have so much on the bike, they are afraid to
ride them. I've never owned a bike or firearm that was not
enjoyed as much as I could. Since I cannot afford a show
piece, I just do the best I can to keep it presentable and
maintain it. With a little luck, my wife won't notice I am
gone this Sunday if the weather gets as nice as they
predict.

"For REAL motorcycles only", since one of the conceits among my fellow
H-D owners who are "Harley Snobs" is that other brands aren't "real"
motorcycles.
I nearly puke every time I hear "When are you gonna get rid of 'that
thing' and get a real motorcycle" spoken to someone on a Shadow, Vulcan,
etc.

I'm not sensitive at all. I know good-natured joshing from being an
outright asshole. Among many it is exactly what you say, but the
specific folks I am talking about are people I know personally and it
is a truly malicious attitude on their part.

In that case, you need to be more picky about the people with whom you
associate.
I have a Harley and I would never put anyone down for riding anything
at all. (I might tease once in a while)
If my son was to get a bike I would recommend his first one not be a
Harley although I doubt he would listen. (why start now?)
Whatever floats their boats.
The only thing that even slightly aggrieves me is that scooter and
moped riders of under 50cc bikes don't have to get a motorcycle
licence and generally have little clue as to what they are doing.

In reality they don't do that. You say that just as an excuse for
buying an inferior fake one.
